***General Introduction***
This dataset contains the pool of scientific publication that were analysed for a systematic literature review (SLR). Two data bases were consulted: Scopus and Web of Knowledge. The list of publications, the decision for their inclusion or exclusion in the analysis, and the parameters analysed can be found in the file “2021.04.30-SLR_Analysis_(BE-CC.xlsx”.

***Purpose of Analysis***
The purpose of this SLR was to analyse the relation between circular built environment and policy, as mentioned in scientific publications. The relation was further analysed by analysing it through an analytical framework for circular city development.

***Methods***
The search strategy is presented as follows. We searched two online databases, namely: Web of Science and Scopus. Date last searched was April 29, 2021. We conducted the following search strategy: “circular* economy” AND “built environment” and “circular* economy” AND (“city OR cities”). In Web of Science, we selected the field ‘topic’, which searches authors, abstracts, and keywords. In Scopus, we selected the field ‘Article title, Abstract, Keywords’. Only articles, reviews and book chapters were included in the search. The resulting findings were exported as RIS, CSV and Plain text files containing full information. They were stored and analyzed using EndNote’s X9 to further identify those publications containing ‘polic*’, ‘govern*’, plan*’, ‘lever*’ or ‘manag*’. Data extraction was done manually and independently by the authors. The PRISMA guidelines for SLR were use to ensure the replicability of the research.

***Description of the data in this data set***
The 248 publications included for analysis were organized alphabetically in the following order in “Sheet 1”. Only 166 publications ended up being included in the resulting paper (under review as of 25-04-2022).

Column A: Author
Column B: Year
Column C: DOI
Column D to N: Elements of Circular City Development according to “Williams, J. (2021) Circular Cities”. 1= the publication discusses the element, 0= the publication does not discuss the element.
Column O: Reasons for exclusions. Publications coloured in red were excluded from the analysis.
Column P: Includes a brief comment about the topic of the publication.
Column Q: Qualitative methods were employed in publication
Column R: Quantitative methods were employed in publication
Column S: Includes brief conclusion of the publication (if necessary)
Column T: Includes brief explaination of discussion section of the publication (if necessary)
Column U: Country used as case study

Sheets “Looping”, “Regeneration”, and “Adaptation” show a consolidated list of publications by the elements listed in columns D, E, and F, and were created only for purpuse of quicker analysis.
