Dataset

***General introduction***

Dataset of floating macroplastic debris (FMPD) from 11 locations and 8 different rivers between roughly 0.15 cm/pixel and 0.3 cm/pixel GSD collected using the River Monitoring System. Included is a ground truth for tracking evaluation on 6 of those locations and two trained detection models based on the train and validation dataset from this study. The data is labelled in 10 categories: trash (anthropogenic debris), organics, Unidentified Floating Object (UFO), bottle, bag, hard plastic, foam plastic, cothing, other plastic and non-plastic. Trash is the category assigned if none if the other plastic are suitable or identifiable and the supercategory of all anthropogenic debris. This dataset is made public as part of a paper on monitoring rivers and can be expanded and used for improving plastic monitoring.

***Purpose of the data***

The purpose of the data is detection of FMPD in multiple locations in the world and assessment on the generalization between these locations. With the final goal of the assessment of plastic transport via automated monitoring techniques.
